Fried Chicken Recipe w/ a Twist of Southern Flair!

Hi Ya’ll!

So last night’s dinner was a bit more simple, quick, and easy! Yesterday was a bit of a busy day for me, filled with appointments & to-do’s; so it was only right to make a meal that saved time.

I decided to go with oven Fried Chicken and a side of rice (topped w/ lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and sour cream). But you know that I had to put a bit of Southern flair to this dish by adding hot sauce to my egg wash. It gives it just a bit of spice, but nothing overwhelming, unless you add MORE hot sauce, of course!

Plus, it’s so much better to use the oven for your chicken wings when frying. Less oil and a bit more crunch! Yum!

Hope you enjoy!

OVEN FRIED CHICKEN WINGS W/ A SOUTHERN FLAIR RECIPE

The Components:

1 1/2 pounds chicken wings (thawed)
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. paprika
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/4 cup hot sauce (I used Jamaican hot sauce, BUT you can use Frank’s hot sauce OR other brand)
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Butter (for coating baking sheet)

The Method:

  1. In one bowl, crack 3 eggs and add hot sauce.
  2. In another bowl, combine flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, garlic and onion powders.
  3. Dip each wing in the egg wash, then into the flour mixture.
  4. Place on buttered baking sheet (avoid over crowding!)
  5. Place chicken wings in pre-heated oven (400 degrees Fahrenheit)
  6. Let bake for 30 minutes before turning wings on the opposite side.
  7. They should begin to take on a nice golden brown color when they start to get done.
  8. Sometimes you want more pepper or maybe a little more seasoning or a little more hot sauce.
  9. Serve with any side that you desire!

Wow, ok! That sounds like a great device! I had a deep fryer once and I hated he amount of oil that you had to use, so I could imagine how much better an airfryer might be! When you get a chance to use it, let me know if it’s great or not (if you don’t mind!).

I tried it over the weekend and it was a success!! Made super yummy honey BBQ chicken wings. For this recipe, it was more of a grill effect rather than deep fried. I’ll have to try making fries next and see how that works. To be honest though, it was a bit of a hassle cleaning the airfryer so I’m not sure whether it’s worth it. For me, because we don’t have an oven in the apartment that we’re renting, the Philips airfryer is a good combo for deep frying, baking and grilling.

Wow! Thanks so much for giving me an update! I’m super intrigued to try it now! I can definitely see how it could be a hassle. I’ve had a deep fryer before and that was such a hassle to clean as well. But I would love to hear how it does with fries. I’ll probably Youtube about it too to get a sense of it in action. Again, thanks so much for keeping me posted! Super excited to look into this further now! 🙂
