NOTE: Adjust the amount of milk (or add water or ice), depending on desired consistency, adding 1 tablespoon more at a time, if needed.

SMOOTHIE:

  • Almond milk or water. I use Califia Farms or make my own almond milk. You can also use your fave non-dairy milk!
  • Peaches. Fresh or frozen.

  • Ground flaxseed meal. Adds a nutty flavor and a boost of omega-3 fatty acids.

Can I Make a Smoothie Bowl?

If you prefer to eat your smoothie with a spoon, rather than drink it through a straw, make a smoothie bowl! Simply add less milk or use frozen banana to give your tropical smoothie a thicker texture. Then add your favorite toppings, including:

  • Chia seeds, hemp seeds + flax seeds.
  • Fresh fruit sliced
  • Granola
  • Chopped nuts like almonds, walnuts, or pecans
  • Coconut flakes
  • Nut butter

Why Turmeric Powder?

Turmeric powder is a superstar ingredient for a few reasons! First off, it’s known for its bright golden color + earthy flavor, which can add a nice twist to your dishes. But what really makes turmeric stand out is its active compound, curcumin, celebrated for its anti-inflammatory + antioxidant properties. Many people use it to help with digestion, boost their immune system, and even support joint health.

Can I Use Other Types of Milk?

Absolutely! If you’d like to switch things up with the type of plant-based milk that you use for this turmeric smoothie recipe—–that’s totally fine! The world of plant-based milk is constantly expanding. From the classics like coconut milkcashew milk, soy milk and almond milk, we now have delicious options like oat milk, and even potato and quinoa milk.

Flavor Variations

Looking to switch up your smoothie game? Here are a few flavor ideas to jazz things up -

  • Berries. Throw in a handful of strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries for a berrylicious blend.
  • Coconut. Use coconut milk, or throw in a handful of coconut to the mix it will taste like a pina colada!
  • Nut butter. Add a tablespoon of almond or peanut butter for a nutty flavor and extra protein. It also makes the smoothie super creamy!
  • Protein powder. Incorporate a scoop of your favorite protein powder for an extra protein kick.
  • Vanilla. A dash of vanilla extract can add a sweet and aromatic flavor.
  • Mint or basil. Add some fresh mint or basil leaves for a herby spin!

Turmeric 'Wake Up' Smoothie Recipe Q + A's

How to store?

Store any leftovers in the refrigerator, tightly sealed or in a covered mason jar, ensuring that you drink it within the same day for best taste and consistency.

Can I use fresh turmeric instead of powdered?

Absolutely! Fresh turmeric will give a brighter flavor and more vibrant color. Just use a small piece (about an inch), as it’s more potent than the powder.

What if I don’t have ground flaxseed?

No worries! You can substitute it with chia seeds or even omit it entirely. Just know that flaxseed adds healthy omega-3s and fiber.

Can i make it more sweet?

Yes! For additional sweetness, you can feel free to use 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup, honey or Agave as well.
