Vision boards are the new “thing” that most successful people swear by. But what is it, you might ask. Well, a vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. The fun thing about vision boards are that you can build it with photos, magazine clips, quirky gadgets, accents, or whatever else you decide to use to convey your goal. It’s definitely fun and creative way to represent all that you want to be, do, or have in your life.
Just remember that a vision board is whatever you make it! You can compile several goals that you truly want to see come to life such as trying more makeup, being a natural, making more money, getting fit, starting a new career, trying a new diet, starting a family, being more confident, doing more of your favorite hobby, going after your dream, starting a business…whatever you choose!
So here are the reasons why creating a vision board is the best thing to being successful:
It provides daily affirmation.
If you are a believer in the statement, “out of sight out of mind”, then you’ll be able to understand how daily reminders are an important phase in creating success. For those of you who wear many different hats each day, you can attest to how hard it is to truly remember everything that needs to be done due to there being just so many things to get done! However, creating a vision board keeps you in line with the things that need to get done and as listed as #2 on this list, it’ll keep you focused for sure.
It keeps you focused.
Much like #1, you’ll learn to appreciate the fact that vision boards keep you focused. With so many things to get done (short-term + long-term), in addition to the little things in between your daily duties, things can be a little chaotic. Rest assured, vision boards are the best tools to keeping you focused towards your goals and will help you keep organized and on the right track toward your success as well as the steps required to help you reach toward that success.
It holds you accountable.
Have you ever created a goal that just didn’t fall through? A new year’s resolution, perhaps? Well, I know that this has happened to me. The good thing about vision boards are that your goals and desires are up close and center, leaving you to being held accountable when your goals aren’t met. Interestingly enough, I believe that this allows us to refocus and realign ourselves in those moments that we fall off the path to our success.
It helps provide clarity.
This to me is one of the most important factors for success. Having clarity allows us to reassess and pinpoint the things we actually want to accomplish. If you’re anything like me, then you’ll admit that we can want a billion and one different things, which can often be all over the place. However, by writing them down or creating a visual (vision board), you’re better able to see the goals that are more important to you and the ones that better align to your daily life’s mission. This helps to avoid wasting time on the things that don’t lead to your ultimate success or goal.
Visualization is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do.
According to the popular book, The Secret, it states that “the law of attraction is forming your entire life experience and it is doing that through your thoughts. When you are visualizing, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe.” As a result, the best ways to make your vision board work for your success is by creating it based on how you want to feel about what you see versus just on the things you want to accomplish. It is said that tying feelings to your visualizes will produce motivation and drive to actually get your goals accomplished regardless of the obstacles that may come along the way.
At the beginning of the year, I decided to create a fresh new vision board to reflect my 2017 goals and must-haves and it was an amazing idea! Lo & behold, I enjoyed the bit of crafting and DIY-ing that creating a vision board entailed. My vision board’s theme is “the voyage of discovery”. This theme is all about making it a year to do all the things that I’ve wished to always try (my passions, purposes, etc.) & regaining my focus on the more important things in my life such as family, relationships, faith, and self-care which align with my overall success as a writer and blogger! I’m learning that you first have to lose yourself to find yourself and it is when we are furthest from home (our normal and familiar) that we most become ourselves. This is when we discover new things, grow, share, and unite with others in a profound way.
Whether you are aspiring to be successful in your career, as an entrepreneur, or just to be your best self, creating a vision board is a great way to keep you on your road to success. Not only is it a creative way to display your hopes and dreams, but also it is a great way to keep you focused, accountable, affirmed, and with clarity.
