Citrus + Pear + Ginger = A delicious combo---Trust me! It's refreshingly citrusy and packed with detoxifying properties, making it an ideal choice as fall & winter roll in. During this season of cozy clothes, evenings by the fire, and comforting meals (I've had this Cozy Sun-dried Tomato Pumpkin Ravioli and Creamy Lemon Herb Butter Gnocchi on repeat lately. Haha.) A light detox can be just the thing to prep yourself for all the fall fun.
This ginger tea recipe is wonderfully straightforward, utilizing the deliciousness of seasonal fruits. It's a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for the whole family. Plus, if anyone starts feeling a bit under the weather as the cold sets in, this is the perfect remedy to whip up. It's a cozy, fail-proof choice that everyone is sure to appreciate.
This tea is often referred to as a "Detox" tea due to the combination of ingredients that contribute to the body's natural detoxification processes. The inclusion of ginger and citrus fruits is believed to have properties that support cleansing and rejuvenating the body! Ginger is known for its potential detoxifying + anti-inflammatory properties, while citrus fruits are rich in antioxidants and vitamins that can aid in flushing out toxins.
The ingredients for this detox tea are simple, and chances are, you already have them hanging out in your kitchen. Here's what you'll need:
In a large pot over medium-high heat, add water and let it begin to boil. Once boiling, add the oranges, lemons, ginger root, grapefruit, and diced pears, and boil for 10-15 minutes.
After the 10-15 minute mark, turn off the heat and cover the mixture, allowing everything to steep for about 10-15 minutes to ensure that flavors are fully infused and potent. My absolute go-to for brewing tea on the stove is this trusty glass teapot — it's been my all-time favorite!
Once fully steeped, add in the sweetener and stir until well incorporated.
Pour tea carefully into mugs, and add the fruit from the pot as garnish if preferred. (More garnish ideas below)
Sip and enjoy!

Even though this detox tea is based on using Bartlett pears, you can also switch things up and add a slightly new flare to it's flavor profile by adding any of the following pears for a bit more sweetness or tartness:
Yes, I know. I wasn’t aware of this either, however, lemon and ginger combined does wonders to our brains. Overall, they are great at soothing specific nerves and improving our mood. As a result, it allows us to think more clearly, and the antioxidant properties eliminates oxidative stress and helps to lower our chances of Alzheimers and dementia.
When it comes to antioxidants and certain vitamins, we know that this obviously helps with skincare. However, when it comes to lemon and ginger combined, specifically, you are able to drink them together to improve your skin health or apply them topically to your irritated skin for healing.
Also, because of their antibacterial and antiviral properties, you can use both ingredients to prevent any infection of the skin.
While each ingredient has been used individually to help your overall hair health, combining them actually boosts your vitamin A and C, which helps to promote hair growth.
They both also help to reduce dry skin and dandruff naturally, so this is a great alternative to using specific products that may be overall harmful and not entirely natural.
When it comes to ginger specifically, which has its anti-inflammatory properties, it can also act as a pain reliever and helps your body recover from body pain, menstrual cramps, surgeries, and other illnesses.
So the next time you find yourself contemplating on whether to take another pain killer, try using ginger (tea specifically) as a natural home remedy.
Ginger specifically, have been linked to keeping your blood sugar levels at bay, which is good for anyone who suffers from Diabetes. However, research shows that lemon also plays a great role in helping to control Diabetes as well.
The soluble fiber and Vitamin C in lemon helps to reduce your blood sugar levels, as well as blood pressure and cholesterol.
Although this tea is undoubtedly delicious as is, here are a few more ideas if you're looking to add an extra health boost:

You can adjust the amount of sweetener depending on how sweet or unsweet you'd like for your tea to be. For the vegan option, use maple syrup, Agave, or organic cane sugar or brown sugar as the sweetener instead of raw honey.
While it's not mandatory, peeling the ginger can enhance the tea's appearance and texture. However, if using organic ginger, a good wash and scrub may be sufficient, especially if you enjoy the earthy flavor and added nutrients found in the ginger skin.
It can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Some people prefer it in the morning for a refreshing start or in the evening for relaxation.
While the flavors may be more subdued, you can attempt a second brew to extract additional goodness from the ingredients.
