If you're anything like me and love fruit and veggie juices for how they taste and make you feel, I highly recommend making your own juices at home. It's much less expensive than shelling out money at a fancy juice shop. Plus, you can be sure to pack your drink with the high-quality produce that you love and want to get great healthy benefits from. And no need to have a fancy gadget like a "juicer"--------all you'll need is a high-powered blender and a strainer to achieve your best juice! This Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice is packed with fresh fruit + vegetables---all of which have powerful benefits for an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant boost, whenever you whip it up. Plus, this Detox Green Tea Shot Recipe and Homemade Blood Orange Juice is an awesome go-to for immune-boosting properties.

Why I Love Homemade Juices.

I recently began drinking homemade juices and completely eliminating store-bought juices as a way to heal my body completely towards of 2022. While I thought that it would be really hard to do, my tastebuds got accustomed to "no sugar" and it eventually left me feeling "refreshed" and restored overall. My digestion got better than it's been a long time, my skin looks more clear, and I don't feel tired or lethargic as I was feeling prior.

Along with juicing, I've definitely eliminated a lot of gluten and not turn a lot of my faves in gluten-free options, avoid sweets overall except for my occasional "cheat days" (think desserts), reduced dairy greatly and drink a lot more water, especially Alkaline water as well as herbal teas.

I'm so proud of myself for sticking to it thus far (it's been almost 2 months) and I'm not as tempted to revert back because my goal is for a better health going forward. If you're a lover of juicing at home also, check out a few combos that I like to make below! Also, be sure to try my Cucumber Ginger Lemon Detox Juice, which is especially great post-workout!

What is a Detox?

By dictionary definition, Detox is the psychological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from the human body. Therefore, detoxes like this one helps your body to reset and get rid of toxins (which can be built up by many factors internally and externally) so that we can feel rejuvenated, improve our health, and help with weight loss.

What is a Sugar Detox?

Overall, a sugar detox is when you abstain from consuming sugar, specifically "added sugars"---which lasts for 1 week or up to 1 month. As a result, this reduces sugar intake, curb sugar cravings, and/or improve overall health.

Ingredients for Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice including carrots, apples, oranges, and a cucumber

How to Make Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice

The first step to making this detoxifying drink is to make sure that you prep your produce by squeezing out the juices, peeling, and slicing the others.

Then, you can add everything to a high-powered blender and blend until combined and produce is full broken down. Strain into a pitcher or bowl and then serve over ice or chill in the refrigerator for an hour or two before serving. Wallah!

Ingredients in Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice

It just takes a few fresh ingredients for this Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice recipe:

  • Kale. For a nice refreshing green color/flavor and is a superfood with a great source of Vitamin A, C, Calcium, Folate, among others. You can sub with beets, celery, Swiss chard, or spinach.
  • Lemon juice. This perks up the richness of the other ingredients and adds a good source of Vitamin C, fiber, and plant compounds.
  • Water. Be sure to sure fresh, filtered water. Bottle water works fine too! I like to use Alkaline water---Fiji and Essentia are the best!
  • Apple. I mostly use Granny smiths because they contain "pectin", a fiber that works as a prebiotic which promotes the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut. You can also use any type of apple.
  • Cucumber. You can remove the peel here too. Or if you have an organic cucumber, leave the peel on.
  • Carrots. I always use organic carrots. They are a great source of nutrients and benefits include: eye health, immune-boosting properties, heart health, skin health, inflammation, and brain health.
  • Ginger root. Peeling ginger is easy! You can even do it with a teaspoon. The peel is thin and soft, it scrapes right off. Ginger contains antioxidants for cell repair, anti-inflammatory properties, bloating and gas, nausea relief, etc.
  • Orange. You can use any kind of orange you like. I love the taste of navel oranges in my fresh-pressed juice. As we know, it's a great source of Vitamin C.
  • Parsley. It's rich in antioxidants, supports bone health, rich in nutrients for eye health, improves heart health, + antibacterial properties. You can sub with oregano, basil, cilantro, etc.
  • Apple cider vinegar. ACV has many benefits which include: helps with weight loss, lowering blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, ease acid reflux, eczema relief, lower blood pressure, etc. Feel free to sub with lemon juice, if preferred!

Why Cucumber + Ginger + Lemon Together?

Well, the short answer is that each ingredient has a ton of health benefits, therefore, putting them together adds more power! I delve further into their individual benefits throughout this post, but that's really my main reason for adding them together for this detox.

Do I Need a Juicer?

No! You don't need a special juicer to make this juice. When you puree everything in a blender, you keep all of the fiber and nutrients from the fruits and vegetables in the juice, rather than straining them out. This makes the drink more filling, healthy, and cleansing.

Of course, if you don't like pulp in your Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice, simply strain it through a fine-mesh strainer before storing or serving.

Great Cleansing Juice Combos

Again, if you enjoy making your own juices at home or need a few ideas for whenever you want to cleanse + detox, I've put together a few additional combos that I enjoy making as well. Just use about the same amount of ingredients for each as in this Cleansing Sugar Detox Juice for an easy whip together:

Kidney Flush: Apples, beets, celery, spinach, cucumber, lemon, tomatoes, + carrots.

Clarity: Carrots, oranges, ginger, turmeric, + black pepper.

Cleansing: Pineapple, ginger, turmeric, black pepper, + lime.

Cranberry Cleanse: Pear, apple. cucumber, celery, spinach, cranberries.

Hormone Imbalance: Celery, cucumber, + green apple.

Anti-inflammatory Juice: Pineapple, cucumber, lime, jalapeño, + mint.

How Powerful is Apple Cider Vinegar Really?

OK, so apple cider vinegar is one of my GO-TO, go-to's! Yes, I had to say that twice. Haha. But honestly, I'm in love with ACV for so many reasons, especially since it's one of the acids that I use for most of my vegan recipes, especially in banking.

However, when it comes using ACV as a natural remedy, I'm such a huge fan.

Just be sure to get the Organic unfiltered ACV with the mother---I get mine from Bragg. Why? Well, because ACV has some powerful properties and benefits which includes:

  • Helps to kill harmful bacteria
  • May help lower blood sugar levels + help with diabetes
  • Improves heart health
  • May boost skin health + more.

How Much Apple Cider Vinegar Should I Consume?

Of course, like many home remedies, ACV shouldn't be overused due to it's powerful nature. On average, consuming 1-2 tsps or 1-2 Tbsps per day mixed in a large glass of water is recommended, especially since it's super acidic.

Health Benefits of Carrots

Did you know that carrots are super beneficial? They are great sources of beta-carotene, fiber, vitamin-K, potassium, and antioxidants.

Studies also suggest that consuming carrots regularly may help reduce cholesterol. Plus, the stories are true, they also help improve eye health! That's thanks to all of the beta-carotene in the bright orange veggies.

Carrots also help to lower blood sugar levels thanks to plant fiber. This also feeds the good bacteria in your gut, which aides better digestion and is tied to a healthy immune system.

What's the Deal with Cucumbers?

Before we dig into this recipe, did you know that Cucumber is an actual fruit and not vegetable? I know. Insane. I had it wrong all my life. Haha.

It's pretty crazy how we think of all fruit being sweet or at least a little sweet in the midst of any tartness. However, a cucumber just don't fit either category right? Is it just me? Haha.

But yes---cucumber is a fruit and it has some pretty awesome benefits as well:

  • It's high in nutrients, containing Fiber, Protein, Vitamins C + K, Magnesium, and more (all with the skin + unpeeled).
  • Has great antioxidants---flushes out toxins and all!
  • Promotes hydration and can help meet your daily fluid needs---they're made up of 96% water!
  • They can help aid in weight loss.
  • May lower blood sugar levels.
  • Great for digestion!
  • Supplies skin friendly minerals.
  • Revives the eyes---think spa day and cucumber slices on your eyes to reduce puffiness and under-eye bags.
  • Refreshes the mouth and heals diseased gums.
  • Keeps kidneys healthy!
  • Makes hair and nails stronger.

And the list goes on.

Let's face it---cucumbers are more than just that one ingredient that you throw on top of a salad to add character! It's healthy stuff!

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed this and plan on making some more. I have been drinking in 8 ounce servings once a day. Should I be drinking more/ less, please advise me. Thank You

    • Hi Jim! I'm so happy that you enjoy this juice! I've been drinking this since the start of the New Year and you can definitely drink 8 ounces twice per day for 3-5 days, if you'd like. Of course, cleansing and detoxes can be personalized, however, that's my general rule of thumb for the best results. I hope that this helps! 🙂

  2. thank you! very refreshing even though I skipped the ice because had a tooth issue. it is a little thin for me though because i prefer more of a smoothie, but I can adjust water for next time. however, it drinks faster than a smoothie so I liked that:)

    • Hi Ande! I'm so glad that you enjoyed this juice! It's truly one of my go-to's! Thanks so much for giving it a try! 🙂
