What Is An Iced Macchiato?

You might not know this, but a Starbucks macchiato isn't quite like the traditional one. In Italian, "macchiato" means "marked," indicating that the espresso is just "marked" with a bit of milk foam. Haha. But Starbucks tends to use A LOT more milk in their macchiatos than just a little foam. So this Apple Crisp Oatmilk Latte is essentially, it's more like a latte, but called a Macchiato interchangeably because it takes inspiration from Starbucks.

Why You'll Love This Apple Crisp Oatmilk Latte

First and foremost, the flavors in this simple and easy macchiato drink is enough to convince anyone, however, here are a few more reasons why you'll love this recipe:

  • It's very similar to starbucks. I tried to make this Apple Crisp Oatmilk Latte as close to Starbuck's macchiato version as I could with the exception of adding personal preferences that you might have! i.e. cold brew (pre-made) or actual espresso shots, etc.
  • It's super fun to make! I literally love the creation of the apple syrup. Such a sweet aroma as they boil!
  • You save money! This by far is one of my biggest reasons for making my own coffee at home (minus the last point to come). You definitely save more money purchasing the ingredients and making your own servings at home.
  • It's healthier. Most of all, this is my biggest plus! I love when I am able to know what ingredients I use whenever making drinks, cooking, or baking. Making my own lattes and coffee at home has definitely allowed me to switch to healthier, organic ingredients which is a win, win!

How to Make Apple Crisp Oatmilk Latte

Once you see how easy it is to make your own tea lattes at home, you'll never have to go back to the coffee shop again. You'll save money for sure. But your drinks will also taste just how you like them. It's a win-win.

This Apple Crisp latte recipe comes together in a saucepan on the stove. It's full of classic Fall spices, an easy apple-brown sugar syrup, coffee, and milk. You can serve it up hot from the saucepan if you like, or pour it over ice for a refreshing latte during any season.

Ingredients

The main component in this simple homemade Apple Crisp Oatmilk Latte recipe is the sweet apple flavor, hints of brown sugar and the coffee. To make your drink, you’ll use:

  • Apple. I love using Gala or Honeycrisp apples or you can use a firm, tart apple like Granny Smith for best results.
  • Cold brew or Espresso. You can also use chilled cold brew espresso coffee or actual freshly brewed shots.
  • Oat milk. Make your own! Or use store-bought Oat milk. You can also use other plant-based milk options.
  • Vanilla. I find the brand Nielsen-Massey to be amazing and of such good quality!
  • Crushed or whole ice. The best highlight of this drink to keep things cold. Crush your ice or use a nice ice cub tray.
  • Apple spice. This adds a warming spice profile to this drink. You'll need cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  • Brown sugar. I use organic to make sure it’s vegan.
  • Water. For boiling and creating of the syrup.
  • Coconut whipped cream. For a nice smoothness after every sip, I like to top with coconut whipped cream. Make your own or use a store-bought version like So Delicious Dairy-Free.

TO MAKE THE APPLE CRISP SYRUP:

  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add together all ingredients (stirring them to combine) and bring to a boil, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer for another 5 minutes or so. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

Best Types of Apples for this Latte

Even though this Apple Crisp Oatmilk Latte is based on using Gala apples, you can also switch things up and add a slightly new flare in their flavor profile by adding any of the following apples for a bit more sweetness or tart:

  • Granny Smith
  • Honeycrisp
  • Fuji
  • Pink Lady
  • Golden Delicious
  • Braeburn
  • and more!

Can I Serve this Apple Crisp Latte Hot or Cold?

Yes! You can definitely switch things up by serving this Apple Crisp Oatmilk Latte hot or cold whenever you chose to. To serve hot, simply keep the apple crisp syrup mixture warm.

Then, simply warm all remaining latte ingredients together in a small saucepan until heated through. Pour in a mug and top with coconut whipped cream and a few spoonfuls of the apple crisp syrup, if desired.

Homemade Coconut Whipped Cream

Making your own homemade coconut whipped cream is so easy! You'll need 1 cup of chilled full-fat coconut cream/milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. On high-speed, whip everything using a whisk attached to an electric stand-mixer or hand-mixer until fluffy and stiff peaks are present. NOTE: Ensuring that your bowl is chilled definitely helps things to whip faster.

How Does Starbucks Make Their Apple Crisp Macchiato?

When it comes to the Starbucks version of Apple Crisp Macchiato, it's pretty similar to this recipe!

It's made with a brown sugar-apple syrup that is added in with ice and cold or steamed milk, topped with espresso coffee and then drizzled with a spice apple sauce.

If you'd prefer to purchase the main components as opposed to making it, feel free to buy the Monin Spiced Brown Sugar Syrup and Apple Syrup. Just a little goes a long way when whipping this latte together.

Common Q + A's for Apple Crisp Oatmilk Latte

Can I Make this Latte without Caffeine?

Absolutely! Although I often make this Apple Crisp Latte with some sort of coffee----cold brew, espresso, etc. You can definitely steep black tea bags as the base of this drink for a nice latte feel as well! About 2-3 tea bags should work for this.

What Can I Do with Leftover Boiled Apples?

I definitely try to avoid waste at all costs, therefore, I like to repurpose these boiled apples by adding them atop oatmeal, yogurt, pancakes, etc. SO good!

How to Reuse Leftover Apple Syrup After Refrigerated?

Easy! Simply add the solid syrup to a saucepan and top with apple juice or a bit of water mixed with maple syrup (about 1-2 Tbsps) and let it simmer until it becomes liquid-y again. Drizzle and enjoy!

Absolutely! If you’d like to switch things up with the type of plant-based milk that you use—–that’s totally fine! The world of plant-based milk is constantly expanding. From the classics like coconut milkcashew milk, soy milk and almond milk, we now have delicious options like oat milk, and even potato and quinoa milk.
