How to Make A Blood Orange Strawberry Mocktail

This stunning drink is very fruit-forward. You'll need a few different kinds of fresh fruit and berries to pull this recipe together.

Ingredients

Here's what you need to make these stunning orange and red mocktails:

  • Fresh strawberries. Choose plump, red berries at their peak ripeness to maximize the natural sweetness and fresh berry flavor in every glass.
  • Grapefruit juice. You can squeeze your own fresh juice or use store-bought grapefruit juice for this recipe.
  • Orange juice. I highly recommend squeezing your own juice from a ripe and juicy blood orange. If you don't have access to fresh citrus, however, you can substitute store-bought orange juice.
  • Agave syrup. This plant-based sweetener is liquid, so it dissolves easily in the cold mocktail. However, you can also substitute the agave with maple syrup, organic cane sugar, or make a quick simple syrup. To make your own simple syrup for cocktails and mocktails, simply dissolve equal parts sugar and water in a pot on the stove, then cool fully in the fridge.
  • Ginger beer. A sparkling and cold can or bottle of ginger beer adds bubbles and warm earthy flavor to this fruit drink.

Instructions

When you have your ingredients at the ready, it's simple to throw these drinks together.

First, you'll crush the fresh strawberries with the grapefruit and orange juices. You can use a muddler to do this or just use the back of a spoon or even a potato masher if you have one. The goal is to break the berries down enough so they release their liquid and natural sugars. You want a pretty smooth texture, but it doesn't have to be totally free of lumps.

Next, fill your serving glasses with ice. Add some of the crushed strawberry mixture to each glass. Then pour in enough ginger beer to fill your glasses up! Finally, add any garnishes you like and enjoy!

Garnish Ideas for Blood Orange Mocktails

I love the combination of mint and fruit. So I always add a few fresh mint leaves to each glass of this blood orange-strawberry mocktail. You can also decorate the glasses with a nice slice of blood orange and some extra fresh strawberries.

Tips & Tricks

SWEETENER: Instead of Agave syrup, you can substitute with pure maple syrup or organic cane sugar as a syrup (sugar + water boiled over the stove top).
ORANGE JUICE: Instead of using orange juice, you can always substitute with lemon or lime juice.
