Why Blood Orange Juice?

There's something so special about blood oranges--that vibrant red hue and irresistible tangy flavor so I just had to add a Blood Orange Juice it to Orchids + Sweet Tea's juice recipe collection! I've always admired these beauties on other blogs, but never got around to using them myself.

This juice adds a playful twist to your morning routine or whenever you're in the mood for a zesty sip--It's like a sprinkle of magic in your day! And when it comes to incorporating blood oranges into other recipes, don't forget, that vibrant hue we adore is courtesy of anthocyanin, a potent antioxidant. So, whether it's in salads like this Blood Orange Kale Salad, mocktails like this flavor-packed Blood Orange Strawberry Mocktail, or desserts, you can infuse a burst of color and healthiness into your creations!

This blood orange juice recipe is loaded with the goodness of ginger and turmeric, is a great way to boost yourself during those crisp fall and winter mornings. Its vibrant flavors give you a refreshing kickstart to your day, helping you stay warm, healthy, and fully charged as you embrace the colder seasons. It's a favorite in my family, and I'm sure you'll love it too!

What Is A Blood Orange?

A blood orange is like Mother Nature's surprise party in the world of citrus fruits! Picture a regular orange, but with a twist – it has a deep, rich, ruby-red or maroon interior. This striking color comes from a pigment called anthocyanin, and it's not only visually stunning but also brings a delightful tanginess and sweetness to the fruit

The other interesting thing about blood oranges is that they actually "bleed". Yup. That's right--You definitely have to be careful of staining because the moment that they are sliced, they run out pretty quickly. I have really grown to love them and even made Fluffy Homemade Orange Cinnamon Rolls using them as an ingredient!

What Do Blood Oranges Taste Like?

They start with that familiar sweetness you'd expect from oranges, but then they throw in a little twist – a touch of tartness that adds a zingy kick. What really makes them special is this subtle hint of berry-like flavors, almost like a citrus-berry fusion.

How To Make Blood Orange Juice?

Simply toss all the ingredients into a high-powered blender and blend away at medium-high speed for about 2-3 minutes until everything turns into a smooth, vibrant concoction. f you're not a fan of the pulp, no worries! You can strain the juice before sipping. Tip: Taste it and tweak the sweetness to your liking.

Ingredients

  • Filtered water: Provides the liquid base for the juice.
  • Blood oranges (freshly-squeezed): (For extra nutrients, you can cut out the "flesh" of the oranges instead and blend)
  • Navel oranges (freshly-squeezed): Enhances the citrusy flavor profile with a sweeter and less tangy taste compared to blood oranges.
  • Gala apple (with skin): Adds natural sweetness.
  • Lemon (freshly-squeezed): Introduces a tangy and zesty element.
  • Fresh ginger root (peeled): Provides a spicy and warming kick to the juice, along with a refreshing aroma.
  • Turmeric powder: Imparts earthy notes and a golden color to the juice.
  • Black pepper: Enhances the bioavailability of curcumin, a compound in turmeric, making it more effective. Adds a subtle hint of spiciness.
