There are 4 main steps for making this strawberry jam recipe, but don't worry they are all very easy + simple!
PREP THE STRAWBERRIES:
Be sure to remove the stems of the strawberries and rinse them with cold water. Pat dry and dice the strawberries.
PREP THE JAR(S):
Sterilize your mason jar(s) in boiling water and dry completely. Set aside.
TO MAKE THE JAM:
In a saucepan, add the diced strawberries, sugar, cinnamon (if using), and lemon juice, stirring until combined and the strawberries are coated. Let them sit for about 5 minutes or so---until they begin to release their juices. Turn on the heat to medium-low and continue to stir so that you can scrape down the sides of the pot if needed.
Let everything simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently. Once strawberries begin to soften, continue stirring and begin to mash the strawberries until fully broken down. NOTE: Continue to stir frequently to avoid burning. The mixture should begin to thicken a bit as the strawberries become more mashed and softened.
Remove from heat. NOTE: Be sure to skim off any foam from the top of the jam, if needed.
LET EVERYTHING COOL:
Pour the strawberry mixture into the prepared jar(s), filling it only about ¾ths the way---leaving space at the top. Then, place the lid on immediately and allow it to cool until room temperature. Serve + enjoy as needed.
How To Pick The BEST Strawberries
One of my favorite parts of this time of year is the fresh berries! But there is nothing worse than getting home and realizing you have accidentally brought squishy moldy strawberries! Here are a few tips for finding and buying the most delicious strawberries!
Consider buying locally grown strawberries for the freshest and most flavorful berries.
Choose strawberries that are bright red in color and avoid any that are pale, pinkish, or have white or green areas.
Look for berries with fresh, green leaves, and avoid any with brown, wilted, or moldy stems.
Smell the strawberries to ensure they have a sweet, fresh aroma.
Gently press the berries to check for firmness. They should be firm but not too hard or mushy.
Inspect the container for any signs of moisture or mold.
Strawberries are not only yummy, but they're also packed with healthy nutrients that can keep you feeling great. Head on over to my blog post Strawberry Season to learn more. Having a fridge full of fresh strawberries is the perfect excuse to get creative in the kitchen and whip up some delicious strawberry jam!
