While I've got an abundance of appetizer recipes on Orchids + Sweet Tea there are times when I find myself in a pinch, unsure of what to make. That's when this Italian-inspired Roasted Garlic Olive Oil Dip always comes to the rescue—sometimes, simplicity is just unbeatable. Of course, I have some fancier dips like Spicy Restaurant Style Salsa, Healthy Green Goddess Salad Dip, and, of course, my much-loved Easy Garlic Herb Three Bean Dip. But today, I wanted to keep it super simple and easy for y'all. Indulge in the creamy delight of our Whipped Feta Pesto Dip—a fusion of tangy feta, aromatic pesto, and creamy goodness perfect for dipping or spreading.

What makes this dip recipe a real gem is that it's not just limited to dipping—leftovers make for an excellent marinade for meats (If you love a garlic + chicken combo definitely try my Skillet Honey Garlic Baked Chicken Thighs) and veggies or a flavorful drizzle on salads, and more! You know I'm all about versatile dishes. Plus, you can easily make it vegan by swapping out the Parmesan, and don't forget, gluten-free bread works just as well for dipping!

How To Make Roasted Garlic Olive Oil Dip

Obviously, the star of this garlic dip is, well, the garlic—no surprise there! But what takes it to the next level is the process of roasting whole bulbs in the oven, also known as garlic confit. The magic happens effortlessly, with minimal ingredients making it a breeze to put together!

TO ROAST THE GARLIC:

  • Begin by preheating the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and preparing a large piece of foil paper. Add each garlic bulb to the center of the foil paper, drizzle with olive oil and wrap tightly with foil paper.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the garlic bulbs are cooked through and super fragrant, tender, and browned on the edges. Let it cool a bit before removing the garlic from their bulbs + mincing them.

TO MAKE THE DIP:

  • In a bowl, add together the ingredients (including the mince roasted garlic), stirring everything together until combined. NOTE: If you need additional liquid----add 1 tablespoon more olive oil at a time.

Everything you’ll need to make the best olive oil dip:

Nailing the perfect flavor in this fantastic olive oil dip is super easy with just a few main ingredients (plus a pinch of salt + pepper).. Here's the lowdown on what you'll need:

  • Garlic blubs: Freshly roasted garlic adds the best flavor.
  • Extra virgin olive oil: The base of the dip. Feel free to use your favorite high-quality EVOO. My fave tried and trusted brand is California Olive Ranch.
  • Freshly-grated parmesan: Adds some cheesy umami salty goodness.
  • Red pepper flakes: A little heat brings out the flavor--but don't worry it isn’t overly spicy!
  • Dried herbs: I like using oregano, basil + parsley!
  • Garlic powder: Never enough garlic goodness right?
  • Salt & pepper: Balances the flavors.

What Bread To Serve With Roasted Garlic Olive Oil Dip?

This dip pairs perfectly with so many types of bread—here are some of my favorites.

My Favorite Ways To Use Olive Oil Dip

  • Bread dunking--- The classic and irresistible pairing.

  • Drizzled on salad.
  • As a quick + easy pasta sauce
  • Lathered on veggies + meats for roasting!
  • Drizzled on top of pizza for extra flavor!

What Olive Oil Is Best?

For an olive oil dip, it's best to use extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) as it offers a robust flavor profile and a smoother texture. Look for a high-quality, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, as it retains more of the natural flavors and nutrients.

The freshness and quality of the olive oil significantly impact the taste of the dip, so choose one with a fruity and well-balanced character for the best results. I enjoy using Brightland's oils which come in various flavor profiles like basil, chili oil, etc. which adds so much flavor if you feel like getting fancy!

Roasted Garlic Olive Oil Dip Q + A's

How To Store Garlic Olive Oil Dip?

Leftover dip can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 1 week; just bring to room temperature when ready to serve.

How long does it take to roast the garlic for the olive oil dip?

Roasting garlic typically takes about 15-20 minutes in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C). Keep an eye on it; you'll know it's ready when the cloves are soft and golden.

Can I use pre-minced garlic instead of roasting whole bulbs?

While roasting whole bulbs provides a richer flavor, using pre-minced garlic is a quicker alternative. Just sauté it briefly in olive oil for a milder taste.

Can I make the garlic dip ahead of time for a party?

Yes, it's a great make-ahead option. Prepare it a day in advance, refrigerate, and let it come to room temperature + add the parmesan before serving!

Can I make this garlic dip vegan?

Certainly! You can easily make the Roasted Garlic Olive Oil Dip vegan by omitting the Parmesan or substituting it with a vegan-friendly alternative. There are various vegan Parmesan cheese options available in stores, or you can use nutritional yeast. Adjust the quantities to suit your taste preferences.

Can I make it without the spice?

Sure! Simply leave out the red pepper flakes and the olive oil dip won’t have the spicy kick to it. This will also make it more kid-friendly.
