What is A Mocktail?

So if you're sitting here thinking, what is a mocktail shot? Let me explain. A mocktail is like a party in a glass, minus the hangover. It's a delicious and refreshing non-alcoholic drink that's packed with all the flavor and complexity of a traditional cocktail but without any of alcohol.

Whether you're a designated driver, a health-conscious human, or just someone who wants to enjoy a delicious drink without the buzz, mocktails are the perfect solution.

What Is A Green Tea Shot

Believe it or not, a green tea shot doesn’t actually contain any green tea! The name comes from its greenish color once mixed, which looks like a glass of iced green tea—perfect for those of us who aren’t fans of the earthy taste of real green tea. This drink is all about that refreshing lemon-lime citrus kick, combined with a hint of sweetness from peach schnapps + whiskey normally... But my Virgin Peach Green Tea Shot has a twist.

What Is Virgin Green Tea Shot?

I mix things up with a whiskey alternative, peach juice, and a homemade sour mix to create a refreshing, tangy flavor. It’s fruity, sweet, and fizzy—ideal for anyone wanting a fun, flavorful drink without the booze!

How To Make The Best Virgin Green Tea Shot?

You’ll want to whip up the sour mix ahead of time, which makes things a breeze. Just combine the whiskey alternative, peach juice + cooled sour mix in a cocktail shaker (or a bowl if that’s easier). Shake or whisk until everything’s mixed well.

When you’re ready to serve, fill each shot glass about ¾ full, then top with lemon-lime soda. If you’re feeling fancy, add a lime wedge on top. And that’s it—easy peasy!

Can I Add Alcohol?

Yes definitely! If you'd like to spruce things up with alcohol, feel free to add 1 ounce of whiskey + peach schnapps. For a more "cocktail-feel" without the alcohol, I love using Ritual Zero Proof alcohol alternatives

Can I Turn This Into A Bigger Mocktail Instead Of A Shot?

Absolutely, you can easily turn your Virgin Green Tea Shot into a refreshing mocktail! Just shake up your whiskey alternative, peach juice, and homemade sour mix with some ice. Pour it into a glass full of ice, top it off with lemon-lime soda, and voilà! You might need to tweak the amounts a bit to get the perfect balance.

Why Is It Called A Green Tea Shot?

The name "Green Tea Shot" actually comes from the drink's color, which often has a light greenish-yellow hue that reminds you of brewed green tea.

What’s The Best Way To Serve This Shot?

Serve it chilled in a shot glass for the best flavor, making sure it’s extra refreshing. I recommend popping your shot glasses in the freezer beforehand—it’s a simple trick that keeps your drink icy cold. If you want to get a bit fancy, add a lime wedge on top for a burst of extra zest and a pop of citrusy aroma.

The Best Virgin Green Tea Shot Q + A's

How to store the sour mix?

Leftover sour mix is great to add to any other mocktail that pairs nicely with citrus. Best when stored in a tightly sealed mason jar or bottle with a label and refrigerated for about 2 weeks to 1 month.

Can i make a bigger batch?

To make additional shots, simply double or triple ingredients, depending on need.

How do I make this shot less sweet?

You can dial back the sweetness by using less sour mix or choosing a sugar-free lemon-lime soda.

Can I make this shot without peach juice?

Sure! If you’re out of peach juice, try swapping it with another fruit juice like apple or pear for a different twist.

Can I make the Virgin Green Tea Shot ahead of time?

Yes, you can! Just prepare the mix (whiskey alternative, peach juice, and sour mix) ahead of time and store it in the fridge. When you're ready to serve, give it a quick shake or stir and pour into shot glasses.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 1 shot

Ingredients

HOMEMADE SOUR MIX:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup organic cane sugar
  • 1 cup freshly-squeezed lemon juice
  • ½ cup freshly-squeezed lime juice (That's about 4 limes, depending on size)

SHOTS:

  • ½ ounce whiskey alternative (I love using Ritual Zero Proof)
  • ½ ounce peach juice (You can also sub with peach juice)
  • ½ ounce homemade sour mix
  • 1 splash lemon-lime soda (I love using Olipop for a healthier twist)
  • lime wedges, optional (I love topping my shot glasses with lime wedges tossed in sugar for a fancy look)

Instructions

TO MAKE THE HOMEMADE SOUR MIX:

  • Begin by juicing the lemons and limes for an easy cooking process. You can definitely do this by hand (along with a strainer) or using a citrus juicer.
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add together the water and sugar (stirring them to combine) and bring to a boil, about 1-2 minutes. Add the lemon and lime juice and let boil for another minute before removing from heat and letting everything cool completely.

TO MAKE THE SHOT(S):

  • In a cocktail shaker, add the whiskey alternative, pear juice, and cooled sour mix, shaking it together until combined. NOTE: You can also whisk everything together in a bowl if it's easier as well.
  • For each shot, fill the shot glass until ¾ full and top with lemon-lime soda. If using, add your lime wedge and the very top of glass. Repeat for all shots.
  • Sip and Enjoy!
